Blog continuation tutorial

Here's a blog format suggestion from Zeitgeist based on the KISS principle - Keep It Short and Simple.

You may want to either print this page or open the main page in a new window.

How to start a blog in the OrgasmWiki

To start a simple blog:

  • Log in first by clicking the log in link in the upper right corner of any OrgasmWiki page, and then:
  • Click the my talk link at the upper right of any wiki page.

For the naming convention guidelines for blogging in the OrgasmWiki, and how to continue the blog when page length gets over 32k, please continue reading THIS whole page and follow the relevant links.

How to find another user's blog in the wiki

There are several easy ways to do this:

  1. To view another person's blog, navigate to Special:Recentchanges and click on talk next to their nickname, OR:
  2. If you are looking for a specific user's blog and you know that user's name, in the left column search box, type:
User_talk:Username where you substitute the person's actual username for Username

For example...

FORMATTING an entry

  1. press 'return/enter' twice then write 'From:'
  2. insert line
  3. write text of blog
  4. insert line
  5. write date, plus time in local 24 hr format.
  6. insert line

The system will automatically format the date entry only if entered in the U.S. format: MM:DD:YY TI:ME REGION

example:

From Self

I find the echo effects are increasing... etc. etc. wow! if its going to get better than this... more soon!

How to deal with the short blog pages requirement - How to Continue your Blog from one page to the next

Since the OrgasmWiki is database driven, the individual pages need to be 32k or less in size for the wiki to deliver pages to your screen as quickly as possible.

If we start creating a lot of longer pages, including blogs, the system will start to slow down.

For a current list of pages that are getting too long and need to be Continued as described below, please click the Special:Specialpages link in the left column Toolbox box, then click the Long Pages link and you'll see a list of pages and their sizes, with the biggest pages at the top.

If none of your pages are 32k or larger (i.e. not closer to the top of the list), then you're ok!

Otherwise you'll need to create a subsequent page to continue your blog (or for that matter, any other article) post.

How to create blog continuity EXAMPLE

How do we give continuity to our blogs then?

When it's time for you to start a new page in your blog so the individual pages don't exceed 32k, to the END of your User_talk:WhateverYourUserNameIs just APPEND the date of the first post on the new blog page.

As an example, let's assume that your username is My name.

As you can see, the name of THIS page is: User_talk:My name.

To create a next blog page we'll APPEND today's date: 20061218 to the end of that pagename...

AND we will add a keyword relevant phrase so the reader will have SOME idea of what aspect of practice you're discussing.
Please avoid vagueness! The more specific, the easier it will be for other readers to find your gems of wisdom by using the search tool.

We will then enclose that new page title in double square brackets to tell the wiki software that we are creating a new page, like this: User_talk:My name 20061218 Blog continuity tutorial Page 02.

So, at the BOTTOM of your current blog page just make a continuation statement and include that new link, like you see in the following paragraph:

This blog continues at User_talk:My name 20061218 Blog continuity tutorial Page 02

When you first create that new link and save the page that this "continued on page xxx" statement appears on, it will be red - meaning there is no content yet.

Just click that link and you'll be taken to the edit box of the new page!

If the link is already blue when you see it, it means that someone has already added content to that continuation page - as I have done in this example.

Just go ahead and click that blog continuation link and you'll see what I mean.

Here it is again: User_talk:My name 20061218 Blog continuity tutorial Page 02 Since it's already blue, that means there must already be some content there! Click the link and go take a look!
