From Friction to Touch
There?s a great emphasis on speed in many of our cultures, as in rush towards some anticipated goal. Like finding yourself permanently in a hurricane, with the only option seeming to step outside and fall asleep, but of course there are other options and working with this metaphor I?d like to suggest how you could step inside the eye of the hurricane, where you remain fully awake, but calm whilst the turbulence goes on around you, not choosing to be not a part of everything that is happening but just finding a space for yourself which is calm within it.
In this space you may still choose to rush (storm) towards a friction based climax, but there is opportunity to explore Jack?s methods and other options. I have some suggestions as to how you can gain entry to your own calm space of exploration, placing an emphasis on touch rather than friction.
Hold your hands in front of you and spread your fingers so there is a finger?s width between each, then interlock the fingers of each hand with one another at right angles to each other, so that the sides of the first joints on all fingers are gently touching. Then gently slide your fingers very slowly back and forth just a few millimetres - focus on the sensation created - when you feel like you don?t want to do this anymore, part your hands and try some of the following; use a finger or a thumb and gently touch, with a little back and forth movement the areas on the underside of your knees and elbows, give you feet a massage.
Then move into Jack?s breathing position and cross your arms over your chest so that your middle fingers are placed on their opposite nipples, very gently and extremely slowly circle the tips of these fingers around each corresponding nipple - imagine this as a kind of tuning in as if you are just very slowly rotating the dials on an old fashioned radio.
Remember don?t follow any of this too rigidly, these are just suggests and ways of opening to yourself which may suit some of you.
