Arrow NATIVE vBulletin CMS (Content Management System) to be included in next vBulletin Upgrade

vbmtor is just about ready to come back on line and he just
told me that Jelsoft, the people who make vBulletin, are "soon"
(date uncertain) going to be releasing a comprehensive upgrade
of the Forum that will include a fully integrated CMS aka Content Management System!

My only concern about that is templates... will there be any cool ones?

The fact that it will be integrated though, I think, is a good
thing and will make installation and maintenance easier,
WAY easier!

We can let vbmtor handle the installs and configurations
and we can concentrate on managing the content.

vbmtor recommends that we wait and see how it might work for us before committing more time and effort to Joomla - which is turning out to require far more custom coding than we thought, anyway!

My concern is will the huge vBulletin userbase (and it is HUGE) start cranking out some cool templates that are EASY to install, and modify, AND that look good and are easy to use even for non-techies (such as I!).

The GOOD news is that by a native CMS being fully integrated with our vBulletin Forum and Blogs software, vbmtor will probably be able to create one or more templates to our specifications that will work fairly seamlessly and you WILL probably be able to just log in to the CMS area and that will carry over to the other areas of the Forum and Blogs - that's an important feature that Joomla would NOT give us.

Here's a link to read more about Content Management Systems generally.

Here's one 3rd party outfit that's been producing templates integrated with earlier versions of vBulletin. Rather industrial looking but at least somebody's out there making the effort.

For examples of templates based on Joomla see:
RocketTheme and YOOTheme sites. At the YOOTheme site, to view the various template examples, use the dropdown list just below the title: Select a template below: - which appears just to the right of the white-on-red YOOtheme emblem at the very top, left-center area of the YOOTheme demo page.

What are YOUR thoughts on the matter?
All the best,
Jack

Hi y'all... Here's a partial list of Forum function goodies that are just around the corner with the advent of vBulletin 4.0

Please post your comments and go take a look at the vBulletin discussions about this new version. It's a pretty thorough rebuild and expansion of vBulletin functionality.

For those of you who want Joomla-like or Joomla templates, you should at least be able to pull RSS feeds from this new system to populate a Joomla template of your preference.
