Finally I'm getting back to this thread with some updates.

Canuck75 and I have been behind the curtain for some time trying to get our bearings on how this is all going to roll out.

First off, Canuck75 has been trying to do some customizations of the Versatility IV template and it hasn't been easy.

This is scaring me away from using it. We're going for EASY here... at least as easy as possible.

No final decision. It still may be one of a choice of several templates that users can select.

I'll post a link about the extension that lets you as a user choose what template you'd like to use to view content, as well as a link to some demos of alternatives to Versatility IV.

Again that doesn't necessarily mean that we're dumping V IV altogether, we're still evaluating.

Go to: YOOtheme Demo Site - Template Showcase and then in the upper left at the top of the page, just to the RIGHT of the red Youtheme button you'll see a drop-down list with a title of
Select a template below

Click that list and select the templates one at time, going back to December 08, inclusive.

For each template, go ahead and click all of the buttons and links. Try out all of the features!

Which templates do you like? Which features? Please let us know by posting here. Please be SURE to state WHICH template you're referring to! Thanks

It seems that Youtheme templates might be a little more sophisticated than the RocketTheme Versatility IV and MAY be easier to configure, withOUT a bunch of custom coding.

The idea is to get well away from having to do custom coding...

The Joomla interface DOES provide the form-based ability to turn off and on certain functions, provided that the templates have been properly designed to begin with.

There is an extension available that lets us give you the option of selecting from several different templates. You just need to let us know which ones you like, and of course, it's very nice for you to help us, at least by volunteering to be an AUTHOR of articles for the Joomla area of the site.

NOTE: Initially, the forum itself will not be embedded in a Joomla template. But content posted in the Forum can be pulled via RSS into the Joomla templates, along with content that is written expressly for the Joomla area.

At this time you won't automatically be able to reply IN the Joomla area to posts.

JFusion is still working on a way to make that happen.

Ideally anything being posted to the Joomla area would also be posted automatically to the vBulletin forum area but that ability is still in development.

For now, to add new content to the Joomla area you'll need to let me know and I can give you Author rights - or even more rights, such as Editor, etc. if you have the interest and a bit more skill.

We can help teach you how. The lower levels e.g. Author don't require a lot of techie ability at all. They're pretty straightforward, and frankly, we need the help. This is your community, after all!

ok Jack... I checked out the link and WOW... i LOVE LOVE the may addition -- YOOtheme Demo Site - Template Showcase...the island sunset color.

I like how it's more "spread out" text and picture wise-- layout wise- just doesn't make me "squint" to read as with the other layouts do--that is the ones that are totally centered in the middle of the page. Not to get critical--(maybe a wee laugh or two at picturing it)[forgive me guys here as I go "all woman"] ..it reminds of a large framed woman trying to squeeze into a one size too small pair of pantyhose.
It works- but SUUURE isn't pretty. *grins

just MY 2 1/2 cents worth. I am listening to the tutorials as I post this. Will let you know more after I've gotten to them all

Cool! BTW, re: squinting... these templates often have a text size change option in the upper right corner... When you see something that looks like this:

A A A A A

... You can click on the size of "A" that you want the text to be, and the text in many or all of the areas will change size!

Whew... It's 5 AM here and I finally figured things out enough to get the new YooTheme Motion template installed correctly.

It just has a little bit of content in it so far, and it's not the ultimate color scheme - although if you behave, and maybe volunteer to help us, we just might give YOU the option to select your OWN color scheme from a little palette of color options!
