Default Rutger's study shows the importance of vocalizing pleasure in male rats

Effects of male pre-ejaculatory vocalizations on female receptive behavior in the rat (Rattus norvegicus).

White NR, Barfield RJ.

Department of Biological Sciences, Rutgers--The State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick 08903.

Both male and female rats (Rattus norvegicus) emit ultrasounds during copulation. Bursts of ultrasounds from males that occur as ejaculation approaches are lower in frequency, longer in duration, and louder than those that appear earlier in the ejaculatory series. We attempted to determine if these pre-ejaculatory calls affect female sexual behavior. The behavior of females paired with devocalized males was compared with that of females paired with intact males, and in a second experiment tape-recorded vocalizations were played to females paired with devocalized males. Females were less receptive when paired with devocalized males; they were less likely to remain stationary when males attempted to mount. Playback of both types of calls restored female immobility toward control levels, although pre-ejaculatory calls were more effective than mating ones. Pre-ejaculatory calls restored running and training levels somewhat toward control level but to a lesser extent than female immobility.

---------------------------------------------

Although I wouldn't go so far as to suggest that this study proves anything about the Key Sound itself, I do think it illustrates an important concept - that the vocal expression of pleasure is natural impulse in males and actually preferred by their female partners.

I remember when I was first learning to practice the Key Sound, I felt self-conscious and ?weird.? I simply wasn?t used to ?making noise? while I experienced sexual pleasure. But once I became accustomed to having multiple orgasms, I suddenly realized that it felt far more natural to fully express my feelings through sound rather than try to bottle them up inside the whole time.

I also noticed that the more freely I began to ?let it all out? with moans, groans, and of course, Key Sounds, the more aroused and receptive my wife would become. It seemed to be an important part of our newfound connection while making love. At this point, I?m convinced that our merging moans and sighs along with my Key Sounds are a key component to what causes our orgasms to slowly converge and become one continuous feeling that we both share together.

Another aspect which is not specifically mentioned in this study, but I believe may have played a significant role in the results, is the fact that the amygdalae in mammals respond in different ways to various types of vocalizations.

Positive vocalizations, like those associated with sexual enjoyment, playfulness, etc, tend to stimulate the anterior sides of the amygdalae, which in turn stimulates the Septal regions (pleasure centers) of the brain. Therefore, vocal expression of pleasure = more pleasure!

Negative vocalizations, like those associated with fighting or perceived threats, tend to stimulate the posterior sides of the amygdalae, which in turn encourages the "fight or flight" response. Which of course, means expression of tension = more tension.

I think the importance of this study, as it applies to Jack's Multiple Orgasm Trigger, is that it suggests that vocalization of pleasure is an important part of experiencing and sharing pleasure. And in nature, males express their pleasure out loud and females respond positively to their vocalizations with increased sexual interest and enjoyment.

I would be curious to see a zoological survery of how many mammals have similiar mating patterns. I suspect that it's more common for the males of most mammalian species to express their pleasure vocally than not. And, in my opinion, modern human males are actually suppressing a very natural impulse to vocally express their sexual pleasure, purely out of social conditioning.

I?d love to hear anyone else?s thoughts on this!

Best Wishes,

Pan :-)

Thanks very much for posting
this thought-provoking reference, Pan,
and for further information about
the role the amygdala plays
in relation to our emotions and experience!

Very succinctly put, Pan. Thank you!

>I remember when I was first
>learning to practice the Key
>Sound, I felt self-conscious
>and ?weird.? I simply wasn?t
>used to ?making noise? while I
>experienced sexual pleasure.

With your extensive experience
and knowledge in this area, you of course
are aware of the following. But for the benefit
of the readers, I offer the following:

There is a tremendous amount of social
pressure in our culture to suppress
erotic sounds... tragically,
even in the privacy of our own bedroom.

While the Key Sound is not a requirement
during lovemaking, but rather,
a tool for awakening
our full erotic responsiveness
during the 20 minute practice sessions...

... any suppression of that sound,
and likewise any suppression of
spontaneous
erotic sounds --
either during the practice sessions
or during actual sexual activity,
whether solo or with a partner --
will tend to suppress
the higher levels of arousal
,
and consequently of erotic enjoyment
and more complete satisfaction.

>suddenly realized that it felt
>far more natural to fully

Yes!

One of the great benefits of the Key Sound
is that it gives us an alternative path
for expressing
the accumulating arousal energy
so that men, for example, no longer have to
use ejaculation -- the so-called "going for it" pattern --
to express the pent up energy.

This is one of the great breakthroughs
offered to us by use of The Multiple Orgasm Trigger Protocol.

And it's to her great credit
that she supports your expression in this way!

>It seemed
>to be an important part of our

Readers please take note of this important statement:
Allowing the expression of erotic sound
offers great potential for increasing
intimate connection with your partner.

Nevertheless, for many people,
and for their partner, introducing expressions
of spontaneous erotic sounds
may initially cause emotional discomfort
such as embarrassment, and the like.

Is very important to recognize
that such negative feelings about spontaneous
expressions of erotic sounds are very likely a manifestation
of what I refer to as Emotional Furballs, that is,
the surfacing of the emotional effects
of abusive or repressive attitudes that we have learned
from our generally erotophobic culture.

Readers please note that Pan's use of the word
"our" indicates his wife's comfort with
spontaneous expression of erotic sounds as well.

in these experiences!

I absolutely agree!

Yes indeed!

In fact, please refer to the transcript
of Chat 0158
for a description of how my discovery of the Key Sound
was specifically influenced
by observing my emotional response to the roar
of a tiger at the San Diego zoo,
and noticing the paradoxical way its belly moved
when it expressed a full-force roar.

Me too! :-)
