It is based on imho VERY intense brainwashing through advertising for women to be characterized in very specific ways, and for men to be characterized in very specific ways, such as: "Women get to have all they want - But men don't... That's just the way it is... It's genetically predetermined and there's nothing you can do about it... Tough luck, buddy! Here, have a... fill in the blank with all kinds of products from beers to hot cars to giant houses to whateverrrrrrrrrrr!

Of course this BS can make men very angry and sometimes pretty bummed out.

Politicians and the media often really push these kinds of stereotypes on us over and over and over.

That's what I call Tell-a-Vision PROGRAMMING

It's also known as gender stereotyping and oppression.

I think the pain and frustration you report is a very accurate response to, like so many of the rest of us, having been saturated with this kind of imagery and messages since you were a little kid.

What specifically have you been reading that has bummed you out?

How about some titles? How about some quotes, so we can address this BS specifically?

I can sure understand how you could feel that way, but you know what? It's a FRIGGIN' MYTH and potentially a very destructive one. But hey it makes advertisers rich!

The media can make it look like (all) women live fantastically cool lives.

The FACT is that scientifically valid studies show that at least 1 out of every 4 women have been sexually abused...

And many of them as children!

Is that cool? Is that lucky??? I think you know the answer to that question!

The other thing is that of those women, most of them continue to experience abuse in their lives, and because of the difficulty they have in seeking professional help to heal from it, they often tend to hook up with partners who continue to abuse them!

Here's another statistic for you... 1 out of 9 GUYS have also been sexually abused... and most of them as children!

And frankly I think THAT number is WAY underestimated... Because men are supposed to just forget about it and be TOUGH... never show any sadness or pain or anything because it's SUPPOSEDLY a sign of weakness.

Just watch the images that are being portrayed... in the ads AND in the programs!

There are a few programs that show people that look like average people but most look like manufactured glamour clones... including the blonde "babes" that do the mainstream news so much of the time.

You know what else?

A recent study shows that ONE FOURTH of teenage girls now have STDs - sexually transmitted diseases. Does that make them sluts?

No... it makes them VICTIMS of this ad-driven culture we're all trying to survive in.

That's what the advertising corporations would like you to believe... That women are superior so for you to be equal with them or superior to them you have to buy all kinds of CRAP like big gas guzzling cars, expensive - well... expensive EVERYthing!!! From shoes to haircuts clothing etc. MORE BS!

Dude, it's what's INside that counts - but how often do you really see THAT portrayed on the so-called BOOB TUBE?

There are a lot of books written by women who talk about their pain.

Some express anger at men in an overly broad sort of way, and there are many extremists who want to characterize all feminist authors and writing as a "threat to traditional values" etc.

That in my opinion is more propaganda. I personally think it's fascist.

Most feminist authors express rage at a male-dominated culture, but that is very very different than saying that you or I personally are responsible for that.

Both men AND women are victims of gender stereotypes.

But it sure makes advertisers rich!

Man I could rant for HOURS about this kind of cultural abuse, I'm gonna chill on it for now...

And please remember, I am NOT attacking you... I am attacking that crap that we ALL carry inside of us to one degree or another about this kind of GENDER-MYTHOLOGICAL PROGRAMMING.

It's a HUGE reason why I DO this work here...
