Have you tried adding a light exercise into your evening routine? Such as, taking an evening walk, or swim?

One dietary supplement not mentioned yet is melatonin. It is recommended by Dr Andrew Weil in one of his recent newsletters.
I want to caution that Dr Weil advisies melatonin be used in small quantities of 1 1/2 to 3 mg.

By the way - the link above cites many clinical studies which show melatonin to be controversial for other uses. One of these is Irritable bowel syndrome - years ago, did you once post a query about irritable bowel syndrome?

Melatonin has also been shown to delay, and sometimes stop, the spread of specific cancers.

As you may know, melatonin is widely reccomended for adjusting to jet lag, and or a night shift work cycle. It is also used for certain blind persons - who can not set their natural sleep cycle - due to an inability to sense light and dark.

Please be cautious, as melatonin is a natural hormone which your body already produces, using it to put you to sleep as well as to wake you up.
The body turns up melatonin production in the evening as the light wanes.
It is helpful to dim lights in the evening, and to shut off the TV a couple hours before bed time. Studies have shown that watching a tv program just before hitting the bed, actually deprives us of certain stages of rem sleep.

As the sunlight returns, your eyes especially sense the light but your skin does so as well - and your body cranks down the melatonin, so you will wake up.

I sometimes use it on weekends only. And only in small quantities. 1 1/2 mg.

Still, i strongly prefer light exercise and yoga to get into a deep sleep.
